Are you receiving the safest auto glass service and windshield replacement possible?
The windshield on a passenger vehicles provides 3 very important safety features:
- It is part of the structural integrity of your vehicle’s roof and prevents the roof from collapsing in the event of a roll over accident.
- It works in conjunction with the passenger side air bag by guiding and supporting the air bag when it is deployed.
- It also provides a barrier that prevents passengers from being thrown from the vehicle in the event of air bag failure or on earlier model vehicles that are not equipped with passenger side air bags.
An improperly installed windshield can put you and your passengers in serious risk of injury in the event of an accident and over a period of time can cause serious rust damage to your vehicle. You can see examples of improper installations and rust damage at the Hall Of Shame.
In February 2000, an investigative segment on windshield replacement safety was aired on 20/20 that revealed some rather disturbing results which created public awareness of the dangers of improperly installed windshields. We suggest you view this information at CAPSA - The Coalition for Auto Glass Safety & Public Awareness.
Our "Safety Tips" provide information that will help insure
you are receiving a safe replacement ranging from questions to ask if you are
unable to watch the replacement and what to look for if you are able to watch.
We will also provide several links to various related sites if you care to
learn more in-depth information on safety or the technical aspects of auto
glass replacement.
This information is not a guarantee that you will receive the best possible installation, but by letting the installer know that you have some knowledge of the installation process you will certainly increase your chances of a proper installation if the installer performing your replacement would normally take shortcuts.
